My name is Michael Flowers and I write children’s books about travel/adventure, diverse experiences and zany mishaps.

I write humorus stories about interesting places and people. It all started because I love late Nineties hip-hop and realized there was another medium in which rhymes and punchlines could be combined to create chuckles: picture books!

I write in both rhyme and prose and have written several picture books and am working on a young adult chapter book.

I am an active participant in SCBWI, 12x12 Challenge, Making Room for Rhyme, and three awesome critique groups. I’ve also taken Renee La Tulippe’s Lyrical Language Lab and Susanna Hill’s Making Picture Book Magic course.

I received a B.A. in Communications from Michigan State University and an M.A. in Teaching with a concentration in Social Studies/History from the University of Southern California.

I’ve studied and taught in different parts of the world, but I’m originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan. I now live in Marco Island, Florida with my wife, Leslie, daughter, Ellie and two cats, Noelle Cupcake and Coco.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this intro!

Michael Flowers OAQs (Occasionally Asked Questions):

  1. What’s your favorite book? The Innocents Abroad by Mark Twain.

  2. What’s your favorite video game? The Legend of Zelda.

  3. You enjoy playing basketball, why aren’t you better at it? That’s a hurtful question, but the truth is, I haven’t practiced enough. And besides, it’s just fun to get out there!

  4. Why aren’t you better at pickleball? I haven’t played it…yet.

  5. What time is it right now? It’s 3:15pm, but that’s likely to change soon.

  6. Would you rather have a pet Tyrannosaurus rex, or a pet Sabre-toothed Tiger? That’s easy, a pet goldfish.

  7. What’s your favorite flavor of ice cream? Raspberry sherbet.

  8. Why did you answer “raspberry sherbet” for the previous question when you know full well that sherbet and ice cream are not the same thing? I occasionally like to put silly answers in OAQs.

  9. Would you rather have a spaceship, or a time machine? Time machine because I could travel to the past, be the first to discover gold, then take all that gold to the future where I could buy a spaceship and have both.

  10. Will you be super disappointed when you get to that spaceship dealership in the future and they don’t let you buy a spaceship because you don’t have a valid spaceship license? Yes.
